“Embrace your blossoming belly with clothes that flatter and show off your figure, but make you feel comfortable at the same time.”

Kimberly Hinkle, Owner/Designer

What is your background in maternity fashion?

I've been sewing and making clothes since I was 8 years old. My mom taught me how to sew using patterns, but I soon discovered that I liked making up my own designs rather than following what someone else had already made. I continued designing clothes as a hobby and eventually went on to get my degree in Textile Design from the University of Kansas in 2003. My experience with designing maternity clothes started about a year ago when a pregnant friend of mine suggested that I go that route due to her experiences.

What motivated you to enter the maternity fashion world?

My friend was six months pregnant and having a difficult time finding maternity clothes in her budget that were both comfortable and stylish. She knew about my background in fashion and that I was looking to start my own company, so she brought the idea to me. I officially launched To the Nines Maternity in September 2006. I've always thought that pregnant bellies were so beautiful, so I was ecstatic at the thought of designing clothes for such a special time in a woman's life.

What makes To the Nines clothing different?

Each of our collections offers the perfect combination of comfort and style at an affordable price (all items are currently under $100 suggested retail). Our collections have a very clear point of view and offer fits that flaunt the belly and show off the figure. Our signature look is the pairing of a solid color with a trendy printed accent.

When was To the Nines Maternity first created? Has the design/style changed much since the line first came out?

To the Nines Maternity started as an idea in July 2006 and became an official company just a few months later. Since I've only created two lines thus far, I'd have to stay that the style has been consistent so far: comfy fabrics with trendy printed accents. I see the company continuing with this style for Fall 2008. I plan to grow each line in size and variety while still maintaining a consistent point of view.

How would you best describe the To the Nines Maternity clothing line?

The line is trendy, but not overly trendy. I draw inspiration from trends that I see lasting more than just one season. I like to design items that have longevity. There's something beautiful about having a well-made, classic piece in your closet that you can throw on with jeans or dress up for a party. As women we have relationships with our clothes because they give us confidence. I try to capture this feeling when coming up with new designs.
