The decision to bring a child into the world should be one of the most important choices you make, but how many will you have?

Large families used to be the norm; however, today the average number of children per household is just two. Many factors come into play when deciding how many children you and your partner will have, including:

1) Finances: A family's financial situation is the number one factor when deciding when and how many children to have. Supplying your children with food, clothing, toys and all the essentials can cost more than you expect.

2) Housing: Do you have room for a ton of kids in your home? Some don't mind having their children share rooms, while others like to have one room per child. What category do you fall under? Will you need to change your living arrangements for the family you wish to have?

3) Childcare: Childcare can cost more than a person's salary. If you have more than one child, it sometimes doesn't make financial sense to work. Unless you are fortunate enough to have a family member who will watch your children for a discounted price or free of cost, childcare can be a big factor when deciding how many children to have.

4) Fertility: Some women struggle to conceive and may only have one child. Others who struggle with fertility and choose to seek treatment might end up blessed with multiples.

Do you wish to follow the trend and have a family of two children or will you venture for more?
