• Pastels. Embrace the pink, lavender and peach tones.
  • Knots and drapery. A rising trend in maternity clothing design is the knot, which makes any maternity shirt a little more flattering. Invest in a draping poncho or cape for dramatic outerwear.
  • Cuffed shorts are in. Use at your own risk.
  • Safari/military trends. One good trench coat with a waist belt should take you through your pregnancy and beyond. Get the green and khaki out and pair with boots.
  • Tie dye is in, but use it sparingly. Pair with high-fashion items to make it chic.
  • Grays and neutral tones are so in. Add a touch of black for drama.
  • The peek-a-boo trend is still here. Wear clothes with tiny cut-outs and sheer fabrics covering bare skin.
  • Polka-dots are in mamas! Keep your dots tiny please.
  • Floral prints. Bold floral prints with no accessories are a hot but choose prints wisely. Mixing floral prints is in too, but very risky. A simpler floral print trend is the soft and painterly way – look for pastel, demure floral prints.
  • Sparkles, gold and silver pieces should not be shelved as just evening wear anymore. Wear them during the day with a toned down cardigan.
  • Yellow, like the color of honeybees and daffodils.
  • Clogs, peep-toes, ankle-wrap sandals and platforms are in.
  • Tribal is in. Bust out the bright colors with African themes. Bold, black symbols are potent with power. Bare the black tattoos if you have them.
  • Big braids are in.
  • Ribbon should be used often. Buy ribbon shoes, add it to your hair or use it around your waist as a faux belt (a simple trick to make an unflattering maternity shirt look chic).
  • Feathers are in. These require a judicious mind – if you want to utilize feathers    without attracting too much attention, find a nice feather clip for your hair.
  • Add a touch of school girl – knee highs, plaid, blazers, mary janes and short skirts.
  • Leisure suits are in. Get a nice blazer and wear it with khakis and a collared shirt.
  • Short in the front, long in the back. We’ve seen this trend a lot lately in maternity fashions. Just one good top will do.
  • Ruffles and puffs. Flowery puffs and wavy fabric pieces are the perfect way to accent your bump.
  • Bows. It’s true, bows are in. Use bows in your hair or find shirts and dresses that feature pretty bows.
  • One-shoulder strap pieces are still going strong.
