During the week of September 27, the Center for Disease and Control Prevention reported that H1N1 activity continues to increase in the United States. To help keep you and your kids safe, read these tips provided by the CDC:

1. Practice good hygiene: wash your hands often with soap and water - especially after sneezing. Using alcohol based soaps also proves effective.

2. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze with a tissue. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow and never into your hands. Don't spread germs!

3. Stay home if you or your child is sick for at least 24 hours or until there are no signs of a fever. Keeping your children home will minimize the likelihood of spreading the flu to others.

4. Get vaccinated for the seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccine when they become available!

The CDC also recommends reserving a room to care for sick individuals in your home, and they also ask you to update your child's emergency contact information at school. Children at high risk include those under the age of 5 and children with chronic medical conditions such as asthma.
