Solange Knowles' Message to Jamie Lynn Spears
Solange Knowles knows the challenge of being a famous teen mother.
Knowles, now 21, welcomed son Daniel in 2004 at the age of 18 (she split with husband, former college football player Daniel Smith, after the baby was born). "I'm sure a lot of people perceived that I was gonna be a young, irresponsible mom," Knowles told
Usmagazine.com
during a recent visit. But Knowles pointed out, "I think that there are some moms who are 35 who are just as irresponsible."
What advice does she have for the 17-year-old mom-to-be Jamie Lynn Spears? "You just have to make the best decisions for you," Knowles said. "You have to decide what's best for you. "Who are we to say what's right and wrong for a person?"
To focus on raising her son, Knowles said she "moved to the country for a year" without any nannies or babysitters. "My parents lived on a whole opposite part of the world," she said. "My son has been my focus ever since the day he was born." "He's been the light of my life," she added, "the inspiration behind everything."

I totally agree...age has nothing to do with a mother's capabilities. There are many women who are "of age" that have children and do not take good care of them....best of luck to Jamie Lynn...it's the HARDEST job, but it's also the most rewarding :)

solange is right my daughter had a baby when she was 15 years old and it was a hard decison for her to make but i stood by her. My daughter is a responsible mother and never stop caring for her child my grandson is 12 years old and his mother work as a social worker and got her bachelor degree. In the souht bronx you see this happening everyday but the most important thing is too keep your head up and smile at people that are ignorant because thst baby is a beauitful life that is given to you

I Agree, you have to make the best decision for you and ONLY you. i Am Now 21 just as solange and I Had my daughter in 2004. I Was 18 at the time and EVERYONE swore I wouldn't be a responsible mom or even graduate from high school. I proved everyone wrong, I graduated on time~ going to day school, night school, and doing extra work. My daughter has a slight disability but i am there for her day in and day out. I Live on my own and I am doing just fine. So ONLY jamie Lynn can decide what's best for her life and what outcome she has. GOD BLESS

what a bunch of feel-good b.s.
Yes, there is a right and wrong. You do what's best for your baby now, not you. No more selfish teen that got you here. Time to grow up fast. Please!

at 18 my life was just begining i just got out of school and wanted to have fun, if i had a baby at 18 I wouldn't of had any support from my family because i was still living with them. Im over 25 and 6 months into my pregnacy I don't have a clue what to do. I know that all my fun has stoped becuase i have a baby inside me and when my baby arrives still no more fun, so my advice is to make sure u r really ready before you make a lifetime commentment to take care of someone who wasn't asked to be here. This is a whole new start for me mentally, physically, and emotionally.

This is some great advice. Society always seems to put certain people in a higher category, did people forget that she is human to and also makes mistakes just like everyone else. I wish that everybody would leave her alone and mind their own business.

Please! Use birth control! Thats what its for! Also getting married just because your pregnant, is not the answer either. You still have alot to do for yourself, your still so young! Adoption is always a good thing, especially when alot of people out there can't have children and try and try to get pregnant, did you ever think about that before settling down at the age of 16 and raising a child? Think about what your doing before you make a huge life-changing decision, its alot harder than you think! I am 26 and raising a one year old and I am married too, and it takes alot of work and responsibility to raise a child, even together!
Think before you make this choice! Open adoptions are out there and I was 19 when I got pregnant the first time and had her adopted and the family and I are very close. I see her anytime I want too, it's not a bad thing at all! I was not ready to raise a child at 19 years old. I still wanted to live my life before settling down!

I agree with everything said in the article. The only thing I would change is to do what is best for YOU AND YOUR BABY. I am a 21 year old single parent. I work 4 jobs and still spend time with my baby. It is hard but VERY rewarding. Good luck and God Bless!

All I can say is it's not easy. I'm 23 and a single mum to a beautiful baby girl. Solange made some good points, you have to decide what is best for you. When I was pregnant those around me told me to have an abortion, including the father, but I didnt do it. Life has been so great ever since she was born and he left me for someone else. We are all stronger than we know.
It's easy to say 'birth control', but you cant cry over spilt milk. Your pregnant and going to be a single mum, now what? Get up and do it, you can. It's the hardest job but the most rewarding ever.
God bless!

before we were born GOD had our lives planned out just the way he wanted to. so if you have a child at a young age that was GOD'S plan, if your a single parent thats GOD'S plan, if you cannot have any kids hey thats GOD's plan. we cannot keep the the goods in life and throw away the bad, if your old or if your young always remember god loves all of us equally black, white , mexican ,hispanic, chinese etc, and he will not put more on us than we can't bear just have a little faith and take that step and he will walk with you on the rest. jesus loves you and i do too!

I had my daughter just 4 months ago and im 20 years old before i had her i couldnt decide to either give her up for adoption or keep her. I thought there was no way i could raise a baby at the age of 20. Now when i look back i wouldnt have changed anything. I love being a mother and watching her grow and do new things each and everyday. You think you cant do it or you dont know what to do raising a child when your still young yourself....but when you have your baby everything changes and it all comes to place and before you know it your the best mom to your kid.

I'm 19 and i just had my son 3 months ago. I can't say its been easy but i believe that the support that i have has helped me alot. I think Solange is so right. You have to do what you feel is best for you. When i was pregnant, my boyfriend at the time was very persistant about me getting an abortion. It just wasn't settling in my mind and heart. I tried everything to lose the baby naturally instead of the medical and nothing worked. I finally just told my family and i was supported thereafter. Now there were alot of people who did talk about me and say things behind my back, but that helped me become the woman i am now. Everyday i look at my son I am so thankful that i kept him. Just keep your head up and everything else will fall in place. I'm not saying its going to be easy but atleast in the long run its going to pay off.

Reading through the comments on here I agree with a lot of them, but I do disagree with some. Just because you are having a baby doesn't mean that your life is over. If that is the mentality you go into it with then thats what will happen for you. A comment mentioned using birth control, well I was on the pill when I got pregnant, proving everything is not always effective. What we all need to do is stop being so narrow minded and judgmental. Things happen and we people deal with situations differently. Just because Jaime-lynn is 17 and pregnant doesn't mean her life is over. We shouldn't judge her because of her age, she is not the only 17 year old out there pregnant and she surely won't be the last.

I am 27 and just had my first child yes it is hard but so is life period. You have many journeys and paths to go down its how you decide to take it. You were blessed for a reason and cherrish the gift you are given, only you can decide from right and wrong no matter what decisions you you have to make.

I am 23 will be 24 in July and Im now 2 months pregnant. For a long time I thought I could not get pregnant. And when I finally did I just looked at it as before it wasnt time God wasnt ready for me to have a child in my life. I even question when I found out that I was should I keep my child or not. Then I realized that God does things for different reason. Even though I have a wonderful job, a wonderful Fiance and a whole lot of support from family and friends, for some reason I still question things. I guess thats just a mental thing. my point Im trying to get across is that GOD does things for different reasons and if he didnt think you could handle it he wouldnt place it in your life. And just remember GOD will never give you to much you cant handle.

I think that it doesn't matter about your age as long as you take care of your child. I am a young mother I had my daughter when I was 22 years old. I don't care about going out with my friends. I have a wonderful time with my daughter just watching her grow up. You have to be ready mentally to take care of child. There are irresponsible older women who are horrible mothers. I think it is about the person and if they are mature enough to handle the situation. Jamie Lynn keep your head up girl you can do this it is not extremely hard. Block out the media and take care of your child. The media is always going to have there own perspective on what they think they know. Tell them to kiss your you know what!

i agree most with the one who said God has a plan for all of us..i am a single mother of twins..they are almost 3 months now..and i just turned 19 in march...it has been very hard ..but you will always have your family right there by ur side..my family has helped me alot...i was just like everyone else..asking how am i going to raise two children..i had no idea...but once you have ur baby...your motherly instincts will definatly kick it and you will know exactly what to do. i didnt care at all what other people said about me..i just focused on doing what i had to do during my pregnancy..but alls i can say is its the most wonderful rewarding thing ever! its all worth it!...i know you will get through it....i love being a mother...and I KNOW YOU WILL TOO!

i am a 28 yr old single mum and it hasnt been easy. all i can say is be yourself , do what is right for you and not what people think. Because if you do , you become their slave and they'll use you and dump you. Age doesn't matter , it's the love that you feel inside, the feling you have when you see your baby for the first time and when you watch her/ him grow. Jamie you and your baby are the most important things to you and don't let ANYBODY tell you otherwise.

I THINK JUST BECAUSE HER SISTER BRITTANY MESSED UP, DOES NOT MEAN THAT JAMIE WILL FOLLOW IN HER FOOTSTEPS, BUT PERHAPS LEARN FROM BRITTANY'S MISTAKES.I THINK IT IS A WONDERFUL THING TO HAVE A BABY. JUST TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND YOUR BABY. BRITTANY IS TRYIBG TO GET HER LIFE BACK, AND HOPEFULLY WILL. JUST FOCUS ON YOURS.
