Ever wonder about the order in which you should be putting beauty products on your face when you're getting ready in the morning or winding down at night? With the help of a few experts, Total Beauty offers a handy how-to guide to help you determine what you should be putting on and when. In the morning, follow the steps below in order.
Step One: Cleanser - Always start by washing your face to dissolve dirt, oil and grime, which can block pores and keep other products from doing their work.

Step Two: Exfoliant - According to Dr. Jeannette Graf, professor of dermatology at New York University School of Medicine, it's ok to skip cleansing on days you exfoliate, since they both remove dirt and oil.

Step Three: Toner - Many experts don't promote toning, but if you use one, following your cleanser is where to use it.

Step Four: Prescription products - If you use doctor-prescribed skin products (that are safe for use during pregnancy, of course), apply them to clean, dry skin to enhance their penetration.

Step Five: Antioxidant serum
- Free radical-fighting serums are crucial for daytime wear when your skin needs protection from the sun and pollution, so if you use one, it should go on following any prescription medicines.

Step Six: Eye cream - Apply your eye cream by patting it on before moisturizing. Your morning eye product should contain antioxidants, SPF, and glycerin or propylene glycol for moisturizing. (Pictured: Clinique All About Eyes Rich Eye Treatment, $27.50 at Clinique.com)

Step Seven: Moisturizer - Finally! It's time for moisturizing. Since moisturizers usually contain more oil than water, applying them nearly last will help lock in your other products, boosting their efficacy.

Step Eight: Sunscreen - If your moisturizer double as an SPF 30 or higher, you can skip the extra sunscreen.

Step Nine: Makeup primer
- Primer should always be your last step, whether you're using it to fill in lines, hide pores or just create an even canvas for color. Applying it after water-based products like cream and sunscreen enables your skin to absorb your other products before your primer forms a slick film on top of it.
I certainly don't use all of those products myself, but it's good to know that toner and eye cream come before moisturizer and sunscreen! (Note: If your doctor has approved the use of a redness reliever during your pregnancy, slip that in after eye cream and before moisturizer)
