There's a good possibility that catwalk won't have rail-thin models strutting anymore. Diane Von Furstenberg, noted designer and president of the Council of Fashion of Designers in America sent a letter to the organization urging them to reevaluate the use of thin models in fashion shows. Her letter was a follow up to a meeting of fashion icons such as Vogue editor, Anna Wintour and designers such as Vera Wang and Derek Lam along with health and nutrition experts.
Von Furtsenberg calls the use of dangerously thin models as a "global fashion issue." She continues to write, "as designers, we cannot ignore the impact fashion has on body image. We share a responsibility to protect women, and very young girls in particular, within the industry, sending the message that health is beauty."
Back in September, Ashley wrote about how thin models were going out of style. Perhaps with Von Furstenberg and others pushing for the use of healthy models in their runway shows, we'll see better body images both in models and non-models.
