I think everyone had high hopes for Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe.  They were the celebrity couple and parents that everyone thought would make it.  But after seven years of marriage and two children, the star couple decided to formally separate. 

Although they appeared to be a happy couple, both Witherspoon and Phillippe were honest about problems in their marriage.  According to People, Phillippe remarked in 2002 that they were attending couples therapy. And Witherspoon also told the magazine that they were "normal people with normal problems."

No divorce papers have been filed yet so I'm personally crossing my fingers that these two can work things out.
