I love love Isabella Oliver’s maternity collection. After all, their tagline is “For Pregnant Women who Love Clothes” which is totally me! They have such a variety of chic and sophisticated clothes all tailored for the ever-growing pregnant body.
Their site is super easy to navigate through so I highly recommend checking it out if you are in need of updating your maternity wardrobe. They truly think of everything as you will see since you can search by 9-5 work wear or occasion or even body type. Are you a petite pregnant woman? An apple shape pregnant women? Isabella Oliver’s site will help you figure out what’s best for you.
Here are some of their Maternity No-Nos’s found on their site.
Start Sooner
Great maternity clothing is designed to give eight months of wear, that’s over two seasons of fashion. So you need to find fashionable clothes to suit you from the 14th week of pregnancy through to three months after birth. (Sorry to all you first timers out there, but your body may need a few months to get back in shape!) The sooner you buy, the more value you’ll get from your new maternity wardrobe.
Avoid Bigger
Going for big sizes or baggy sweaters from his wardrobe is a mistake. They fall off your shoulders, sag in the bum, and hang off your bump like table linen. You’ll look (and feel) bigger than you are, and appear less elegant. Plus you need to go up a size each month to accommodate your growing belly. Expensive and depressing!
Don’t Go Changing
Why throw out your style rules? Use your current wardrobe as a guide. Clever modern maternity clothing designers know we love our hipsters, thongs, tankinis and dresses, so design them to suit your pregnant shape. Whatever you live in now, just find a maternity wear version.
Don’t Scrimp
Go for fabric that stretches and lets your skin breath. Opt for clever details, such as ruched sides and wraps, so clothes grow and shrink with you for a fitted neat look. Pick clothes that flaunt what you like about your body, along with those new highlights…your sexy cleavage perhaps?
Think ‘capsule collection’ and choose fuss-free maternity clothes that complement your existing wardrobe. Black, white, cream and neutrals are always a sound investment, but don’t be afraid to add a splash of color and accessories to suit the season’s trends.
Invest in a Maternity Bra
A good maternity bra is essential. At first try a soft bra like ours (under-wired is not recommended in pregnancy). Then as your ribs expand and your cup size goes up, this first bra will feel tight. At this point, it’s really worth visiting an experienced bra fitter to measure you and give you advice.
Maternity Yes
Treat yourself to something that makes you feel fantastic. You deserve to be the center of attention right now, as when baby’s here, you’ll have to share the limelight.
