Hair Hookup

Let's face it - unlike our favorite celebrities, most of us don't leave the house every day with camera-ready hair. But when it comes to looking fabulous during pregnancy, there's one thing a woman must maintain, and that's her hair!

Consider the following tips as your hair bible:

  1. TAME THE FRIZZ. If your hair is curly, spray a fine-tooth comb or toothbrush with hair spray and use it to sweep fuzz back from the hairline.
  2. SLEEP FIXTURE. Repair dry, broken hair by applying leave-in-conditioner before bed two or three times a week. Comb it through damp hair and leave it in overnight. (Sleep with a towel under your head to protect your pillow.)
  3. APPLY OIL. For severely damaged hair, rub a few drops of moisturizing jojoba oil (available at health food stores) into ends the night before doing a conditioning treatment.
  4. BEACH CONDITION. If you're heading to a pool or beach, apply sunscreen or a styling product with UV filters to your hair. The sunscreen will protect processed hair, while the sun's heat will allow the conditioner to penetrate deeper, so hair will be soft and silky.
  5. THE BEST BLOW. Gently squeeze out excess water before blow-drying hair straight so the hair is still damp, but not wet, when you begin. Drying hair that's too wet will cause it to frizz and curl.
  6. TAME COARSE HAIR. Rubbing a mixture of styling cream and alcohol-free gel onto damp hair will keep coarse strands from frizzing when dry.
  7. ESTABLISH ORDER. To tame puffy bangs, dry them before the rest of your hair. Brush them down with the nozzle of the dryer following slow and close.
  8. PICK UP THE PACE. If your hair is coarse or frizzy, move the dryer down the strands quickly to prevent hair from frizzing. If hair begins to curl, rewet sections moments before drying them.
  9. STAY STRAIGHT. To extend the life of a blow-out, clip hair into a high bun or French twist before taking a shower, covering it with a shower cap. (The heat will help lift the roots.) Wait for the stray hairs around your neckline to dry before unclipping the hair.
  10. SOAK IT UP. If you've overdosed on a particular hair product, spray the roots with a bit of aerosol hair spray (always use in a well-ventilated area) or apply a little oil-absorbing hair powder. The alcohol will dissolve excess grease and the powder will soak it up.
